Summers in Northern Minnesota are such a special time and people who spend their lives in the Twin Ports understand just how precious the month of July is. I moved to Superior when I was 9 from Southern Wisconsin and quickly learned that the times that you learn to appreciate the Twin Ports are in the summer. Bri grew up 20 minutes away, just outside of Duluth, and she decided to have a backyard wedding at her childhood home in July.

Bri’s dad spends countless hours creating the perfect garden landscapes and Bri wanted that to be captured on her wedding day. The yard was filled with gorgeous dahlias, petunias, bee balm, lilies, and geraniums. As someone who grew up in a home showcasing beautiful landscaping, the work that her dad put into this space was not lost on me. His dedication showed as he worked hard to ensure every part of his property was perfect up to the arrival of the first guests.

If you’ve never been to Duluth in July, you may be surprised to learn that it can be downright uncomfortable in the heat. It’s enough to make you question everything you’ve heard about Duluth’s chilly weather. Bri and Aaron got married on one of those kinds of Duluth days. No stranger to the heat now, Bri, Aaron, and their guests embraced it with many of them traveling from California to celebrate with the Holleys.

Often, backyard weddings are just as much work (if not more) than a wedding at a venue. Bri spent so much time carefully considering each part of her day to make sure that everything was perfect and that attention to detail showed. Even the invitations were sent on seed paper that, when planted, gave life to plants that were showcased in her father’s garden.
