I didn’t attend a single wedding this year that wasn’t affected by the pandemic and Mollie and Jacob’s wedding was no different. Mollie and Jacob were planning a wedding for January of 2021, but as things started to close down again last fall, the two of them decided to have an intimate wedding with their families followed by a vow renewal and giant party in December of 2021. I met Mollie through work when I was filling my busy schedule with a third job and Mollie was working a second job at the Y in Hudson.
Mollie grew up just outside of Platteville, Wisconsin. She and Jacob decided to get married a few minutes from her childhood home, the same place where Jacob proposed a couple of years earlier. As we were planning for the wedding, Mollie said, “I want there to be snow for my wedding!” Her wish came true… sort of. A big snowstorm rolled through Minnesota and Wisconsin the day before their wedding. Unfortunately, things were a little too warm for snow in Platteville. I went to sleep on Friday night bummed that Mollie wasn’t going to have her winter wonderland for her wedding day, but in the morning, I woke up to snow.
If you know anything about winter in the Midwest, you know that sunny days mean cold. Shortly after leaving the hotel to start our day with Mollie and Jacob, the sun came out. While it felt warm, the wind was frigid and it felt just like your typical winter day in December in the Midwest. The snow stuck around for a little while but by the end of the day, it was nowhere to be seen.
Mollie and Jacob didn’t let that ruin their day - they are perhaps, the most go-with-the-flow couple I have ever worked with. They decided to have their first look in the traditional way, while Mollie was walking down the aisle. Jacob’s expression was so sweet and I loved getting to capture it in the beautiful church where they shared their vows for the first time less than a year before.
Winter days are short so we took advantage of the golden hour lighting immediately after their ceremony. We captured some stunning photos outside of the church before heading to Mollie’s family farm for the official golden hour photos where we met their dog, Kru. I met Kru at their first engagement session, followed again by the second engagement session.
After we wrapped up the dreamy golden hour session, we headed for the reception where there was a gazebo out front decked out in white twinkle lights. They set the tone for a fabulous end to the night with Mollie and Jacob.
