We kicked off the 2022 wedding season in the best way ever celebrating Emily and Chris’ wedding. The couple has been together for seven years. They wanted to have a big party with their most favorite people and decided to have a wedding to celebrate with their friends. Several times, I heard Emily reflect on the day and on how great it felt to have so many people there because they care about her and about Chris. If that’s not a reason to throw a party at one of your favorite places, I don’t know what is.

Emily and Chris are from Duluth and are about the same age as I am. Emily's mom was active in getting the Great Lakes Aquarium up and running when Emily was 8 years old. Emily was featured in a video inside of the aquarium when it opened and has so many great memories there. As someone who grew up in the Duluth area at the same time as Emily, I can really appreciate the sense of nostalgia that comes with seeing all of your friends and family coming together in a place that is home to so many childhood memories.

As a matter of fact, everything about their day was so Duluthian that I couldn’t help but smile to myself whenever I was reminded of my favorite Duluth things. The day started out with a cold wind off of the lake and as we drove to their house on the hill, we were greeted with snow on the ground. Despite the cold wind, the sun was shining and it provided just enough warmth to make it bearable to be outside.

Emily and Chris welcomed their closest friends and family to be with them for their backyard ceremony.

After that was over, we went to the Great Lakes Aquarium for a cocktail hour and their reception. The reception overlooked the harbor and was just in time for the most perfect golden hour. As we finished up dinner catered by Duluth Grill, we watched as ships passed under the lift bridge before aquarium staff opened up exhibits for the guests. Guests interacted with jellyfish, got to pet lake sturgeon, and got to meet a walking stick.

Emily and Chris were sure to provide the guests with plenty of entertainment throughout the night and included telescope viewing by Arrowhead Astronomical Society and board games to keep the fun going for all ages.
Each aspect of Emily and Chris’ day ticked all of the boxes to make it a perfect Duluth (wedding) day.
